The Furniture Association of New Zealand
thanks MIROTONE our conference sponsor. |
 |
The Association is engaged in a number of initiatives aimed at maximising the value it provides to members.
A few of these are listed below:
A Proposal to Raise the Profile of New Zealand Made Furniture
This would take the form of a new corporate designation such as “Certified Furniture Maker” and a national set of standards/code of best practice as the cornerstone of the certification which would provide differentiation in the marketplace as well as the potential to generate greater revenue for companies qualifying to use the certification brand.
The
Association has commissioned research into the development
model and feasibility of the proposal and a report on this
was presented to the executive at a meeting on 20 May and
further discussion will take place in July.
Pursuing a relationship with the Furniture Foresight Centre in Valencia, Spain
Visitors from the Centre spoke at the Association’s recent annual conference providing a global perspective of the furniture industry and outlined work they were doing on behalf of developed countries to ensure a sustainable future.
Discussions are continuing with them and a number of members to find a pathway to establish closer links with the Centre and the information they have on the global scenario.
Wood Exposure Standards
The Association, in conjunction with other major wood users have provided input into a proposal by the Department of Labour aimed at decreasing the dust levels of soft wood dust from 5mg/m³ to 1mg/m³
Worker health and safety is of concern to members of the Association but we have expressed concern with respect to introducing any mandatory requirements which would involve additional compliance costs when the industry is already under considerable pressure in the marketplace and without sound research to determine whether these changes are required in the first place.
Industry Assistance Packages
In conjunction with our training body, FITEC-Furniture, the Association has circulated a schedule identifying various programmes and direct assistance available to industry from government and other agencies.
Designex 09
The Association is partnering with dmg world media in relation to the show which will be held at the ASB Showgrounds from the 28-30 June 2009.
Contact Us for more information on the above as well as other initiatives being undertaken by FANZ at the moment.
